Pastures New(ish..)

Well it's 2012 and this blog has gone the way of my other blogs i.e. bugger all happening!  However to be fair, not long after I started this one, my 'other half' (Avicenna) started a blog for Jolly Bodgers - a painting club of sorts, that we both belong to and I have been doing some posts over there.

I'm not really sure what to do with this space now - it's hard enough to keep things moving on one blogger let alone two. So, I guess what I'm really saying is that you'll find me lurking over on Jolly Bodgers now so if you want to tag along, you will be most welcome :D

Hope to see you there - although I know some of you are following Jolly Bodgers already.

Happy New Year and may your brushes keep busy during 2012

Better late than never

Well, January came and went pretty damn quick, closely followed by February, March, April. May is hanging in there by the skin of it's teeth and.........shock horror I have actually done some painting.

I tend to have lots of ideas; they get written in a book so I don't forget them and so I can add little bits here and there and generally refine them. Titles. I have titles in my head; they can be phrases, a play on words, a statement. Whatever!  Then I think about how best to express them with models. As well as doing single minis for competitions, I also developed a love for cool, fun  dioramas. I like people to look and then do a double-take. If I can make them laugh, or maybe prompt a thought then that's even better.

My latest painting project has been one of those slow boilers. Whilst the theme has most definitely not changed, the way to express it has. So, have you seen the film "Once upon a Time in Mexico" starring Johnny Depp?  Well, my piece is based on one of the classic lines from the film...

These are WIP shots; got lots of tidying up to do, plus a friend suggested that maybe the Mexican't should be drunk with a bottle of Tequila by his side. I was going to have him shot.....but I'm warming to the idea of him just being completely out of his head :)  Just need to see if my sculpting skills will oblige ;)

In the meantime, enjoy and I'll update...erm...soon!

Big plans and all that...

Well, after my stunningly high number of posts for 2010, if I only make one more post in 2011 I will have increased by 50%!  Blogs are strange things; great ideas but actually require a reasonable amount of work. As a child, I always kept a diary but this trailed off as an adult which is just about when life starts to get interesting. Maybe that's it, too much stuff going on means you never have time to actually write about it.

Anyway, back to models and painting which is really what this place is all about. I need motivation; I've not painted anything since Euro Millitaire in September 2010. It's that life stuff again - too busy - but now I have a week off as my other half is in Japan. In fairness I have actually prepped a model (yay!) and undercoated another.

The models in question is Poupee Canoupe's Pregnant Cyborg and Tales of War's Captain Hook character. Couldn't be more different from each other :D  I'll get some pictures up later

Well, that's it for my first post of 2011. Lets hope I have it in me to sustain more throughout the year.

Happy New Year everyone x

Here it is.....

My first blog. I get a kick from reading interesting stuff on other people's so I thought I'd put my 'keyboard' where my mouth is, so to speak and start one myself.

Been surfing today and found some nice stuff. I get all fired up seeing all the great models other people have done and I really should be sitting at my painting desk right now. But hey, I'm here instead.

Found Fantasy Figure Magazine online......great articles with lots of step-by-step pictures. Just up my street. Particularly like the version of Cutter from Infinity on the front. Just happen to have one all ready to go and this is just the sort of thing I wanted to do with him too. He's a tad too neat in the pictures on the box.

Enjoy!
